Biker gang leader Kisum (Adam Roarke) loves waitress Marcia Little Hawk (Joanna Frank). Her brother Johnnie Little Hawk (Robert Walker, Jr.), the leader of a group of American Indians disapproves. At various times these two groups are adversaries and allies. The two groups join forces but crooked businessmen scheme to have them at each other's throats again. The theme song "Anyone for Tennis" is by Cream. The Iron Butterfly are heard playing their classic "Iron Butterfly Theme." Producer Dick Clark and director Richard Rush made "Psych-Out" earlier in the year.

Review :
Much better than most biker schlock
Sure, this isn't nearly as good as either "The Wild Angels" or "The Born Losers", but its still miles ahead of schlock such as "Angels Hard as They Come" or "The Losers". Richard Rush (a one-hit wonder with the masterpiece "The Stunt Man" under his belt) was always one of the more intelligent genre directors of the time. In "The Savage Seven", he manages to combine some compelling drama and characters with the characteristic brutal violence one comes to expect from these flicks. Like the psychsploitation classic "Psych-Out", this was produced by Dick Clark, but the groovy camp of that more well-known feature is largely absent.
The characters are what make this work better than many other biker flicks from the era (the acting is good to boot). I've never been a fan of Robert Walker, and hes pretty weak here, but the rest of the cast is terrific. I always felt Adam Roarke should have graduated along with Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper to more mainstream pictures because hes an awfully talented and charismatic screen presence, and this is no exception. Also, Joanna Frank makes an appealing, intelligent, and sympathetic heroine. Don't worry however, there's plenty of violence and action on hand, and this flick moves at a quick pace. I especially appreciated the downbeat ending which is a real bummer. "The Savage Seven" is much better than most biker schlock. (6/10)
