Tony Anthony targeted by a gang with a unique scheme to rob a stagecoach of gold
"The Stranger Returns" or "A Man, A Horse, A Gun" or "Un uomo, un cavallo, una pistola" is a fine spaghetti western. Tony Anthony wrote the story and stars as the stranger who finds himself in the midst of trouble. He's a laid back character with a wry sense of humor. He doesn't get upset even when he's in big trouble. His opposition under-estimates him because he doesn't look like much or act macho, and he usually has something up his sleeve or can rely on the help of the town preacher.
I do not know the names of the two main bad guys, but, as different as each was, each did a very good job projecting their characters. One is a double-crossing postal clerk, a town man, who is quite slick and talks rather calmly and persuasively. The other is a tough bandit leader with a big sadistic streak that comes out every so often. His gang is quite large.
The body count in this movie does mount up.
The gang is after a gold constructed stage coach and, with the postal clerk, have a clever scheme to bring off this robbery. Anthony finds himself in the middle of it all.
The music by Stelvio Cipriani is of very high quality and real spaghetti western style. It's coordinated with the action and scenes beautifully, so that it becomes a real contributor to the sound impact. When it stops at crucial points, this has as big an impact as when it's going. The musicians playing are very skilled, and we hear plenty of trumpet and deep guitar.
