I presume because this is a foreign film it didn't get noticed as much as it deserved. It is a film of "D'entre les Morts" by Boileau and Narcejac, and was also filmed in 1958 by Alfred Hitchcock as "Vertigo" starring James Stewart and Kim Novak. Boileau and Narcejac are the writers of "Les Diaboliques" and the suspense generated by the situation in all their books is extremely good. However Hitchcock made the film depend far too much on the actors and also gave away the twist much too early, and spoiled the plot. This version is superior. It is a moody film and keeps the viewer wondering what is really going on right until the end.

Downright insane sexploitation picture about four lesbians who break out of the big house and decide to steal a rich woman's boy toy and hold him for ransom. SHE MOB has got to be one of the poorest made sexploitation movies to ever come along and because of this it's also one of the most entertaining. The opening title sequence is certainly remember and while watching them pay close attention to not only the fact that every "job" is credited except the director but also check out the copyright. From this point on things are just downright crazy as we start with an incredibly annoying sequence where the rich woman is in the bath and keeps calling for her lover. After the first ten calls you'll be screaming enough already. Then we get one of the most unrealistic simulated sex scenes that you're ever going to see. Follow this up with the introduction of the "she mob," which just happens to be some of the strangest characters you're ever going to see in one of these movies. This includes the leader Big Shim (Marni Castle) who goes around in ugly black leather. Her three gal pals aren't much either, although the cutest does also have an early example of breast implants. The entire film contains bad editing, poor directing choices and of course some the worst dialogue that you're ever going to hear. All of these "bad" factors make the film somewhat fun to sit through, although like most in the genre it eventually runs out of gas long before the end credits.

Crappy, But Hilarious Trash-Horror With The Great Boris Karloff
"La Muerte Viviente" aka. "Isle Of The Living Dead" aka. "Snake People" of 1971, is an extremely trashy and unintentionally hilarious movie, and one of the last movies of the great horror icon Boris Karloff. I have utmost respect for director Jack Hill for movies like his great blaxploitation classic "Coffy" starring Pam Grier. "Snake People", directed by Hill and Juan Ibanez, however, is one of these movies that are so bad they're actually pretty good. I'm a big fan of trashy B-horror flicks, but the only two reasons why I enjoyed "Snake People" were Boris Karloff, who plays a rather small role in this, and the movie's unintentional fun value.
The tropical island "Korbai" is reigned by a bizarre voodoo cult. The cult's unholy priests, amongst them a creepy midget and a scary snake dancer, sacrifice beautiful local girls to their occult deity "Damballah". The girls, who volunteer as sacrifices in order to achieve eternal life, are then resurrected from the dead as mindless zombies. Determined to put an end, to these rituals, that are ignored by the local police, Captain Pierre Labesch comes to the island. He asks the islands richest landowner, Carl Van Molder (Boris Karloff) for help. In the meanwhile, Van Molder's niece, who came to the island to fight alcoholism, befriends a local police lieutenant.
As a horror movie, "Snake People " fails entirely. As an unintentional comedy, however, it is hilarious. The dialogue is extremely poor (and therefore extremely hilarious) and apart from Karloff, the acting is really bad too. The locations are amateurish, the plot has huge holes and many logical errors. While Captain Labesch, for example, is obviously French, and came to the island sent by 'the government', other law enforcement officers of this government have English names. I laughed a lot when I saw this movie the first time, and I will definitely watch it again. Don't expect any suspense, but watch this as the unintentional comedy it is and entertainment will be guaranteed. 3/10

Aging French Rif Raff
The same team (almost) and the same theme (almost), produced a masterpiece a few years before (Les tontons flingueurs) when French post war riff raff was still in style and carried some panache !
But as we were about to enter the 70's this "old world" of classy bandits and villains speaking dated slang did no longer show the same thrust. Their sense of humour got heavier and they were obviously not very comfortable in the modern environment... (remember the night of Léontine in the 60's modern design bedroom !).
This movie shows that. Still funny but not as hilarious as before. Good actors (marvellous Françoise Rosay) but a murky plot. Modern guys do not do it with the same style....

Not underdeveloped as a Film!
There is much that is wonderful about this film, the first Cuban film to be released in the U.S. after the Revolution. I found the ending rather abrupt and unsatisfying and some of the political discussions were long-winded (the fast disappearing subtitles on the video didn't help), but overall "Memories" was vibrant and surprising. The film is made with a lot of the spirit of the French New Wave, lots of flashy film techniques. It felt surprisingly open and honest to me, to have come out of Cuba at the time it did. It depicts an intellectual who has opted to remain in Cuba despite his well-off family and his wife having taken off for the U.S. He stays, wanting to see "how everything turns out". Afflicted with a rather massive case of both ennui and horniness, the film captures his musings on the state of Cuban society, at times satirical and sensual, but always cut through with a pervading sense of melancholy. It makes me want to hunt down more works by its late director, Tomas Gutierrez Alea.

Great bookends, sagging middle
Detective Daniel Madigan (Richard Widmark) and Detective Rocco Bonaro (Harry Guardino) enter a squalid Manhattan apartment building to pick up Barney Benesch (Steve Ihnat), who is wanted for questioning on a case in Brooklyn. When Benesch manages to take Madigan and Bonaro's guns away and escape, Police Commissioner Anthony X Russell (Henry Fonda) tells them that they have 72 hours to get Benesch back, or else.
Out of all of the Don Siegel-directed films I've seen to date, this was the biggest disappointment. The film begins and ends with fantastic action sequences--well directed, well shot, with a nice, gritty feel, but in between the film felt overlong, overly complex, and far too soap-opera-like for my tastes.
It could be due to Madigan being adapted from a novel, but Abraham Polonsky and Howard Rodman's ("Henri Simoun" here) script includes so many different threads, most of them inconsequential to the outcome of the film, that it almost begins to lose coherence in the middle. It's a bad sign when the major arc of the story is completed, but characters still have to engage in a number of "But what about so and so?" verbal tags at the end of the film to try to satisfy the audience.
It feels almost as if Madigan is made for two entirely different crowds--one, fans of gritty crime action films, and the other, fans of realist dramas cum soap operas. I can't imagine the former caring about most of the material in the middle (unless it had a pay off towards their genre), and I can't imagine the latter being interested in the action scenes. Most of the material in the middle, although it has some more than admirable dialogue and decent performances, hinges on a complex web of personal and professional relationships--various romantic affairs, questionable relations between the police and citizens, and so on. It all comes to naught in the end. Also not helping is Henry Fonda's odd aloofness. Again, it might work if it had some other payoff, but it doesn't.
Still, the positive aspects were good enough to not bring my score below a 6. The film might also play better on a second viewing, where you better know how to adjust your expectations as it goes along. On a first, uninformed viewing, the beginning is likely to gear you up for a great, suspenseful and witty ride, leaving you disappointed in the middle, until you finally adjust and then you're awakened again with action at the end.

The Limbo Line. I saw this movie about 20 years ago;I do not remember any thing about it at all except that i loved a song That played out i thought at the time was sung by Matt Monroe. Now with the availability of all musical scores on line or thru file sharing, i still could not find that song; i do not even remember how it goes.(It probably says "Here I go Again"). I checked every possible venue, but with no luck; i could not find neither the movie to enjoy watching again nor the song that has come to be a voice from the past that i can not quite remember nor forget. If any one can tell me how to get this song i would be very grateful.

I am Russian and this is almost the best "Seagull" I've ever seen. Period.
Everything looks lively and natural. Sometimes Chekhov's plays when staged give you a sense of irreality and feel unnatural, but Lumet's "Seagull" really can make you feel the essence of Chekhov's drama and even explain its popularity if Chekhov is not your favourite writer. Costumes and everything else - houses, furniture etc. - are beautiful and authentic, something you rarely can expect from an American movie about Russia. The only real disadvantage, to my mind, were love scenes in the first part of the movie, - they were absolutely out of place here and presumed a reading of certain scenes the author never thought of.

a roughie ruthlessly unravels
Although the filming is inept and the post-facto addition of a framing device is disorientingly clumsy, this picture slowly reveals itself to be a fascinatingly repellent "roughie" (or perhaps a "ghoulie"). Mama Lupo's dungeon sequences feature naked writhing bodies in bare rooms being whipped and prodded with nasty instruments, not unlike the "Olga" series or the Findlay's "Flesh" cycle. For equality's sake, the grotesque Mama herself gets to strip down for action, as does a corpulent "shiek" availing himself of the girls' services (Mama must have really trained them well to go for this guy). At times the dialogue is played for laughs, but the melodramatic elements unravel with conviction. As they say, "they don't make 'em like this anymore".

Great fun, good action and characters. Should be a classic.
Franco Nero, sporting a burly mustache and sideburns, stars as Segei `The Pollack' Kowalski, an angelic opportunist, who, for profit not nobility, helps a revolutionary, Paco (Tony Musante), overthrow the corrupt Mexican generals. It is a very good Spaghetti Western, with a nice pace, good action, and interesting characters playing off one another. Jack Palance is Curly, an obviously gay bad guy, whose prissy demeanor hides his ruthlessness- that is until he kills his own partner out of spite and blows a few men's heads off. The story starts with Nero establishing his badassness while catching a dice cheat, forcing the gambler to eat the dice and saying, "When you get them back, I suggest you dont use them again." He is then hired to help protect a trainload of silver make it through rebel territory to the States. Nero goes to the mining town only to find it overthrown by Paco and his gang, and the mine collapsed. Nero luckily finds himself able to offer his help to the rebels and guide Paco in the art of stealing, strategically avoiding, and attacking the corrupt army, eventually overthrowing it. But, mostly it is not a buddy-buddy relationship, Nero is in it for the money, Paco is in it for the righteousness, yet they both respect each other. (To give a good example, at one point, while crossing the desert, Nero makes Paco and the revolutionaries empty their canteens so he can have a shower while they go thirsty.)
Aside from nice bits of humor, it sports some religious allusions, such as, Paco begins with only twelve men + Nero (their Jesus), they masquerade at one point during a religious parade and attack while dressed as angels and virgin Mary's, as well as Nero being strapped to a t-shaped cross when captured. There is also a nod to Macbeth when Paco's woman uses his power drunk naiveté to convince him to turn against Nero. The film makes use of an obviously fairly high budget, with many large battles, crowd scenes, entire towns destroyed, planes bombing, and many locales. It has an interesting structure, since the bulk of the film is told in flashback before returning to the beginning and then reaching the grand finale. The Morricone score is great, and amazingly enough, very understated. Corbucci's direction has never been better.
(Any film that opens with a shot of a dwarf clown dressed like a matador, you just know is going to be good)

Excellent movie about the Six-Day War !
This movie could be consider as one of the few movies that described the historic moment that israeli people lived in Israel during the Six-Day War, especially because they were surrounded by a great number of enemies , and their determination to remain like a Jewish State allowed to them to defeat it. I watched the movie like 20 years ago, and in that time, I Got the oportunity to record in my Betamax , and I still have it with me, and when I have time, I enjoy watching it again. The best scene could be when the commandos destroyed the radar station from Egyptian Army.
Aliens have released all the giant monsters from their imprisonment on Monster Land and are using them to destroy all major cities on the planet. It is up to the daring crew of the super rocket ship X-2 to infiltrate the aliens' headquarters before the Earth monsters and King Ghidrah annihilate the planet.

Monster free-for-all: fun stuff
Toho decided to throw a block party for monsters in Tokyo, and invited every creature they could get to sign on to do the flick. Their three biggest mega stars are featured: the lovable giant fire-breathing lizard Godzilla, the supersonic bird who stirs up hurricane winds, Rodan; and the evil three-headed serpent King Ghidora. Throw in the talents of several other monsters and you have a Battle Royale that's a feast for the eyes.
Aliens want to conquer the Earth. So they use hypnosis chips on both key humans as well as the giant beasts, forcing them to assist in a sinister scheme. The human actors, although intentionally upstaged by their larger co-stars, make for an interesting invasion from within story. The actors really do a good job showing urgency in this battle for Earth, (in spite of the sometimes questionable dubbing job). The action moves fast and furious, leading to the inevitable climactic monster showdown.
The film incorporates the monster back stories as much as possible; considering how many creatures get in the act, that's quite an accomplishment. It's fun to see them all together; and they put on several good destruction and battle scenes. The TV reporter doing a sports play-by-play in the decisive battle is a great touch, giving us great lines such as, "Listen to the monsters, with their cries of horror and sudden death!"
Fun stuff for Japanese monster movie fans or anyone who likes a good, campy, action filled flick.

Superannuated Angry Young Man
I do not like John Osbourne (JO) plays & films.His male characters are either sarcastic, unlikeable, boozy, pseudo-intellectual, aggressive, sex obsessed characters; and the women are passive, doormat, submissive, don't answer back types.It makes me wonder whether JO really liked women (misogynist?) despite marrying the actress Jill Bennett (who plays NW's mistress).This film really grated on me. Nicol Williamson (NW) at his legal office never seems to do a stroke of work while expecting others to do it for him while putting up with his boorish behaviour.His character has all the negative JO traits outlined above of "Angry Young Man", except he is no longer young.NW's character just sits around making old fashioned sexist remarks at work, while the "dolly birds" there seem to be equally sexually obsessed.Of course NW has a horrible relationship with his wife.NW smokes, drinks womanises, frequents strip joints, and is vile to his wife, daughter and dinner party guests alike.What on earth did the characters in this film see in NW's character and why did they persist in seeing him?In some ways "Inadmissable Evidence" (1968) reminded me of a British version of Jean- Luc Goddard's "Pierrot le Fou" (1965) with Jean-Paul Belmondo.
As a measure of light relief I spotted a young Dot Cotton (June Brown) of "Eastenders" and Uncle Fred (John Savident) lately of Coronation Street, at the dinner party scene.In the scene where he interviews a man charged with "importuning for an immoral purpose" even the man himself criticised NW for not making notes.There was even a suggestive, incestuous scene with his daughter just to add to the negative traits of this old fashioned anti-hero.JO's anti-heroes loved portraying and sneering at the middle classes, swigging wine at dinner parties and wanting an audience for their "clever" remarks and boorish behaviour.5/10
Dr. Ravi returns from abroad and takes up position as Chief Surgeon in a hospital. He then meets with Nurse Shanti, who lives an impoverished lifestyle with her ailing mother, and decides to perform surgery, but she passes away, and a guilt-ridden Ravi marries Shanti much to the chagrin of his mentor, Kaka, who had hoped that he would marry his daughter, Rajni. The couple then travel to Kashmir for their honey-moon, and then settle down to a harmonious relationship. Hoping to travel even more, their plans are interrupted by the hospital's head doctor, who wants Ravi to focus on cancer research. The couple drop all travel plans and immerse themselves in research so much so that Shanti herself becomes ill, and not wanting to become a burden, leaves. A frantic Ravi searches high and low in vain, and is subsequently devastated to learn that she has perished in a train accident. Kaka then becomes very ill and Kaki tells Ravi that the cause of his illness is Rajni's insistence that she not ...

An Ignored Classic
Saathi is such a wonderful movie it's unbelievable. The story is very unique...and I don't wanna explain it because it would only take out the suspence. Wonderful songs, and an enthrallingly excellent performance once again by Vyjayantimala. No dances, but they aren't needed in such a classic. Rajnder acted great, and so did Simi. You just have to see this movie that should have been renowned as a classic!

"Gorilla Gang" or "Der Gorilla von Soho" is a remake of "Dead Eyes of London" (1961), an earlier krimi, which in turn used the story from "The Dark Eyes of London" (1939) also known as "The Human Monster". The latter stars Bela Lugosi; it's a very good to excellent film, underrated at 5.8 on IMDb. I haven't seen "Dead Eyes of London".
Being made in the 60s, "Gorilla Gang" has quite a broad current of humor and lightheartedness that runs right along side the seriousness of the crimes and murders that occur. The latter do not have much emotional impact. The two facets are integrated quite well.
The use of color creates different tones to any crime story, depending on how it is used, the kind of color, the costuming and the presence of detail in the photography. This film uses color quite well. The crime-laden scenes have a different look, quite a bit like a black and white krimi, while the other scenes use bright colors.
There are several scenes at a club in which patrons take photos of nude (topless) girls. I wouldn't call the way that these scenes are done sleazy, immoral or salacious. They seem partly to sell tickets and partly stemming from a liberal European attitude toward nudity that's reflected in many Italian giallos of the time too.
The acting is good. The story itself, while complicated by too many characters, is fairly predictable as to who the antagonists are. The story relies on an improbable coincidence. The story really needed more work, as it has some rather large loose ends, including at least one murder and some improbable decisions that are made. This is why I rate the movie a 5, or below par, even though the story telling itself is up to par.
Looking past the story issues, the film is actually quite enjoyable.

meandering, centreless piece with hints of genius
Profound Desires of the Gods, sometimes referred to as Imamura's overlooked epic, is an ambitious undertaking. Running at a daunting 173 minutes, it is ostensibly the tale of one inbred Ryukyu family's (the Futoris) attempts to regain lost social status. They do this by digging a pit to bury a huge boulder, and by seducing a mainland engineer with the feral, sexually-charged wild-child daughter. On another level, the film interrogates issues of modernity versus tradition, religious hypocrisy, and Japan's troubled relations with the outside world.
The film's successes are its luscious landscape, evocative production design of heathen and pagan rituals and artifacts, and portrayal of suppressed, taboo desires bursting to the fore. The narrative wanders and explores various tangents that can challenge the attention. This is filmmaking for cinema, and the gorgeous golden beaches and turquoise oceans had me longing to see this on the big screen. A murder by masked men at the end is also visually compelling. This film is interesting in bits, and flashes of genius occasionally show themselves, but the lack of coherence, repetition in the storyline, and outright dud moments (the heavenly vision of the departed patriarch), make this a problematic addition to the Imamura oeuvre. It hints at the great film that this project could have become, a realization of the potential of the vision, rather than the vision itself. Sometimes amazing, sometimes disappointing, this is one to watch and argue over.

Garstly Spaghetti Crap
I watched this film some time ago, it´s full of bad special effects, bad actors, very, very bad equipment-the G.I.´s carry German G3 assault guns and italian Beretta submachine guns. There is almost no plot. The allied commandos want to destroy a german radio outpost in Normandy, they don´t find it. An old woman tells them where the base is, 5 minutes before the film ends. "Very credible!" Don´t watch this movie if you wanna be entertained! I had to watch it and warn you now not to spend a cent for lending this video!!!
